Regardless of which trim you choose, you get a 2.0L engine with a 205-horsepower output. Six-speed manual transmission is standard, but you can go for a six-speed automatic if you purchase the Limited trim. All trims are rear-wheel drive. Acceleration is just average, but handling around the tight turns at high speed is marvelous. The BRZ doesn't lean or roll around twists in the roadway, and it doesn't require much steering centering after the wheel is yanked. Overall, the driving experience is exhilarating, and you'll really appreciate the short shift gates, making for controlled braking and deceleration, especially when traveling downhill.

Interior and Features

The base Premium trim is anything but bare-bones on the inside. Standard features include a height-adjustable driver's seat, a multi-function steering wheel that's leather-wrapped, a folding rear seatback, and a nice 6.2-inch screen display. You get smartphone app integration, Bluetooth, a media player interface, and an eight-speaker audio system. Satellite radio is also included. If you go for the uplevel Limited trim, you get dual-zone automatic climate control, simulated suede upholstery, heated front seats, and a 7-inch screen display. This trim also comes with the TomTom navigation system. The top-level Series.Gray trim comes with distinct cabin trim, a frameless rearview mirror, and all of the features of the Performance Package. All trims feature dual USB ports and an auxiliary audio jack.


The 2019 Subaru BRZ comes with antilock brakes, stability and traction control, and front airbags. There's also a rear airbag system that's located overhead. The aforementioned Performance Package includes Sachs performance dampers and special Brembo brakes. An emergency telematics system isn't included, but you will find it easy to integrate your phone into the high-tech system, so you'll be able to make emergency communications.
