Difference Between the 2019 Subaru Outback and 2019 Subaru Ascent

Serving Atlanta, Lawrenceville, and Duluth, GA

The biggest decision one has to make regarding the purchase of a crossover has to do with size. Many families choose a mid-size, five-passenger transport because they really don't need the extra room. Besides, the fuel efficiency is good when a smaller, less powerful crossover is operated on a daily basis. A larger, three-row SUV is better for long-distance travel and when lots of cargo is being transported.

Subaru has the bases covered regardless of vehicle size consideration. The popular Outback is a well-rounded, well-built mid-size, and the all-new Ascent is already turning heads. The latter is Subaru's latest foray into the three-row vehicle class, and it boasts numerous standard high-tech features lacking on some of its rivals. Below, a more detailed comparison of these two models follows.

Standard And Optional High-Technology

The 2019 Subaru Outback isn't lacking in the high-tech department. Standard even on the base trim are automatic headlights, hill descent control, hill-start assist, a rearview camera, and Bluetooth. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also included. Subaru's Starlink infotainment system comes with a 6.5-inch screen display. Uplevel trims add on a Harman Kardon 12-speaker sound system, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The famous EyeSight safety package can be purchased as an add-on feature on the top trims. The new 2019 Subaru Ascent has the same basic high-tech package on the base trim as what is included with the Outback, but the Ascent base trim also features a six-speaker audio system and satellite radio. The Ascent Premium trim boasts an 8-inch screen display, voice controls, 4G LTE connectivity and a Wi-Fi hotspot, and available navigation.

Cabin Design

This is one of the big selling points of the 2019 Subaru Outback. While not extremely spacious, there's a good deal of legroom in the rear seating area of this vehicle, and there's plenty of cargo space when those rear seats are folded flat. All of the forward controls are within easy reach. Front headroom is generous, and all seating positions allow for great outward visibility thanks to the slim roof pillars. Soft-touch materials abound, and the trim textures give passengers the feeling that they are riding in a much more expensive vehicle. The new 2019 Subaru Ascent boasts a roomy interior with plenty of volume in the rear seating area. Leather upholstery is optional, and tri-zone automatic climate control is standard even on the base trim. A panoramic sunroof is included with the purchase of one of the offered packages.

2019 Subaru Ascent Interior

The 2019 Outback can be purchased with a 3.6L engine, and this extra power really helps out when the vehicle is fully loaded with passengers and cargo. All-wheel drive is standard, so the Outback is a solid choice if driving on the backroads is in the future. Maximum cargo capacity is 73 cubic feet, easily besting most rivals in this segment. The 2019 Subaru Ascent also comes with standard all-wheel drive, and its 260-horsepower engine means plenty of cargo hauling capability. A total of 87 cubic feet of cargo space opens up when the second- and third-row seats are folded, and the Ascent can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

Both of these models are worth a close inspection. Both are affordable, and the uplevel trims don't add much to the sticker price.
